Check out this article that lists some of the key terminology that beginning golfers will hear, but likely not understand. If you are just starting out, this list will help you comprehend the things that you will hear more experienced golfers talk about, and if you take lessons, they will help you assimilate your golf lessons easier.

That list is good for beginners, but experienced hackers need to learn terms like corkscrews, jackrabbits, roadrunners, wormburners, etc.  What do you call that when your ball goes backward or lands at your feet?

It's called not keeping your head down and your eye on the spot.  I'm an experienced hacker too.  In fact just got my degree!  But I have no idea what wine, Bugs Bunny, the Coyote killer or fishing has to do with Golf!  If your balls go backward then you likely have testicular torsion.  It's an emergency.  Take it from the Golf Doc.  He has a Harvard Med Degree!  You need to balance on the balls of your feet!  Not defeat your balls!  Take it from Golf Doc.  He's been there.
